Most veterinary nutritionists recommend that treats make up no more than 10% of your dog's total daily calories. Going over that regularly can contribute to weight gain, nutritional imbalance, and reduced appetite for their main meals — even when the treats themselves are made with wholesome ingredients.
The right number of treats per day depends on your dog's weight, life stage, activity level, and whether they're working toward a weight goal. A 10 lb senior dog and a 70 lb working dog have very different calorie needs, so a flat "two treats a day" rule doesn't hold across the board.
